UroLift® Treatment for an Enlarged Prostate
Minimally-Invasive. State-of-the-Art. Effective & Safe.
In the spirit of Alaska Medical Specialties’ devotion to innovative
medicine and patient care, the Alaska Urological Institute now offers
the UroLift® procedure. When men have Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia
(BPH), commonly known as an enlarged prostate, their urethras become pinched.
When this happens, it can be difficult and sometimes painful to urinate
Symptoms for this condition include:
- Delayed urination
- Low-pressure urination
- Frequent need to urinate
- Never feeling that your bladder is empty
Previously, the most effective treatment for BPH was surgery, which resulted
in long-term relief at the cost of an uncomfortable healing time and side-effects
that included erectile dysfunction. Other treatments are available, but
their side-effects are sometimes worse to patients who would rather deal
with BPH than loss of sexual function or similar results.

UroLift® sets itself apart by being a treatment that does not cut,
remove, or otherwise affect tissue in any way. Using endoscopic technology,
a catheter is temporarily placed in the pinched region of the urethra.
There, implants are placed that gently push the prostate gland out, immediately
opening the urethral pathway. Because no surgery is required, recovery
time is minimal, allowing patients to return to their daily lives quickly
with immediate symptom relief.
